DINING munchies and music
H ere we are in January. How did we even get here? While the scientific answer of another trip around the sun may

be the easiest to digest, 2018 flew by at a seemingly record-breaking pace.
Food and entertainment writer Jeff Clark visits with the legendary singer Johnny Mathis at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.
Thanks goodness we live in an area where there are plenty of shows and entertainment to keep us busy. This month you can see Morris Day and The Time at the IP Casino Resort, TLC at the Hard Rock Live and Peter Cetera at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Cetera, who was the lead singer for my favorite band, Chicago. He’ll be performing with a symphony, which is always a memorable show. Cetera will play his hits and some of Chicago’s biggest hits including “Hard To Say I’m Sorry,” which he wrote with the great David Foster.
Before the show, I hope to eat another great meal at BR Prime in the Beau. For a place that
has a reputation for serving excellent steaks and seafood, one of my favorite things I’ve eaten there was the pecan-raisin bread that was served table
side. I’m not a big bread eater, but it was delicious. As we enter into a new year, many of you
may be contemplating skipping the bread and attempting a healthier lifestyle, at least until Mardi Gras season. Fortunately, there are some options for healthier eating on the Coast.
In an area that has some great barbecue, you may not be familiar with the barbecue sandwich
at the Magic Vegan Café at 1723-B 25th Ave. in Gulfport. It’s made of unicorn meat. But before you start calling your local Wizard Union or PETA, it’s not made with any meat at all — it’s vegan.
You can also get great vegan options at Good Karma Café, located at 2346 East Pass Road in Gulfport. Come for the daily lunch specials. Stay for the gluten-free vanilla lavender cake. You will be glad you did.
