Gulfport attorney Hugh D. Keating received the Boy Scouts of America’s Distinguished Citizen Award at the annual Gulf Coast dinner.
“Scouting represents everything that is good in our country,” Keating
said. “Scouting teaches and stands for integrity, great value systems, commitment, hard work and individual accountability. To receive this award is a tremendous honor for me.”
Dinner chairman Duncan McKenzie said, “I am excited to work with an organization such as the Boy Scouts of America that has been serving South Mississippi for over 91 years.”
Past honorees of the award include Roy Anderson III, Dave Dennis, Dr. Phil Dur, Bishop
Joseph L. Howze, Senator Trent Lott, Ricky Matthews, Jerry O’Keefe, Leo Seal, Congressman Gene Taylor, Roland Weeks Jr., Brig. Gen. Joe Spraggins and Butch Oustalet.
The dinner served as the kickoff for the 2019 Friends of Scouting campaign with a goal of $477,000.
Pine Burr Area Council President Wes Fulmer said, “The Boy Scouts depend upon ‘investments’ from individuals, businesses, corporations, foundations and the parents of Scouts, to provide more than 48 percent of the annual budget.”

EARNS FORBES RANKING
story by Lynn Lofton
Mississippi’s largest credit union, Keesler Federal Credit Union, has been named one of America’s Best In-State
Credit Unions by Forbes magazine. In this inaugural ranking of the country’s best credit unions, Keesler Federal is the only credit union in the state being recognized on the Forbes list.
“We are very pleased to be recongized as one of America’s best credit unions,” Keesler Federal CEO Andy Swoger said. “Such recognition is a testament to the high member satisfaction we work so hard to achieve.”
The ranking is based on independent surveys of customers regarding overall satisfaction, willingness to recommend and trust. Forbes conducted more than 25,000 surveys across the United States
to compile the ranking. Only those
credit unions with the highest scores were included on the list.
Keelser Federal was founded in 1947 and is now a $2.5 billion cooperative. It has 200,000 members world wide who represent a diverse range of financial goals.
