Brandy Jarvis Ibos of Biloxi has
been named Mrs. USA Earth 2018
in a national competition held in Washington D.C. in late November. Ibos will go on to represent the United States at the international Mrs. Earth competition in July 2019.
Ibos, owner of The Sequin Siren
in Biloxi, was proud to represent Mississippi in the competition and looks forward to competing at the international level. “I want to share with the world that Mississippi is made up of resilient, hospitable
and environmentally conscientious people,” she said. “We are survivors
of an environmental disaster and offer aid without hesitation to others across the globe.”
As Mrs. USA Earth, Ibos hopes to continue promoting her eco platform, Going Green Going Coastal. “My platform focuses on keeping coastal communities locally and globally greener and cleaner,” Ibos said. “My main focus is my children’s coloring book, which I use to educate children about the coastal ecosystem and inform them on the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.”
The Miss Earth USA organization focuses on empowering women,

Set for January 19 story by Lynn Lofton
Looking for a fun way to brighten up a gray winter night? The Gulf Coast Symphony Guild’s fundraiser, A Night in Old Havana, will fill
the bill. It’s set for January 19 at
the Gulfport Yacht Club Ballroom with cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 and entertainment at 8. All proceeds support the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra.
“A Night in Old Havana is a re- creation of the glitzy nightclub era of pre-Castro Havana when nightclub evenings were popular, elegant musi-
cal extravaganzas,” Guild President Shirley Margaret Godsey said. “We invite you to join the Symphony Guild for dinner with a Cuban menu; Latin music performed by a classical guitarist, a base, and a percussion- ist; and an exhibition of Latin dances by the Liquid Rhythm Dancers from New Orleans.”
Event chairman Lyn Gibson adds, “We promise this evening will be out of the ordinary and memorable with a touch of glamor. The recommended dress is nightclub attire.”
Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased from Gibson at 205.516.0887 or at lyn3410@ aol.com or from any Guild member.
