TOPIARIES
story and photos by
Here on the Coast, the holiday celebrations don’t end after New Year’s Day. Mardi Gras is coming up on February 13, which means we’ll start seeing pops of purple, green and gold any day now. These Mardi Gras bead topiaries are a great way to celebrate the season as well as reuse old beads from last year. They’re
easy to make and will add
a colorful addition to your Mardi Gras décor.
TO MAKE THEM, YOU’LL NEED
THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS:
Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
• Styrofoam cones, 9” by 4” and 12” by 4” • Mardi Gras beads
• Acrylic craft paint in metallic gold
• Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks

Paint the styrofoam cones and let them dry. I used metallic gold, but any color is fine. You’ll just need something to fill in the empty space between the beads.

Start adding the beads. To do this, I added small lines of glue and worked my way around the cone so the glue wouldn’t dry before I could attach the beads.
Fill in any voids with additional beads or embellish your topiaries with draped beads.
