Here’s wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year full of good health, human kindness, new beginnings and other wonderful things. It’s our chance to do better, improve, and maybe learn something new.
Starting off 2017 in the best spirit, we present — what else? — weight loss stories in the Fitness special section. If we conducted a survey, losing weight would probably be the most prevalent resolution on people’s lists far and wide. General fitness and toning up would most likely be a close second. There are inspiring stories of local folks who’ve done just that by visiting gyms, working with trainers, adopting better nutrition and training for marathons.
There’s also a fiscal component to the Fitness section with investing tips for 2017 and suggestions on how to get the most for your travel money.
This month’s People story is a good one. We always like to tell the stories of Coast residents who do unselfish things, and Brian Wilemon is such a person. Don’t skip his story about teaching kids to play percussion with the Bay Ratz Marching Battery.
Two of the Coast’s most popular casual dining spots, Murky Waters and Taco Sombrero, are spotlighted in the Dining section, along with a piece about the growing interest in wine pairing dinners.
We have informative stories in the Healthy Living section that include a look at high blood pressure (the scourge of many Americans) and why taking your children to see the family pediatrician is a good idea even when they’re not sick.
You may be surprised to learn of some of the unusual sports activities available locally as reported in the Sports & Outdoors section. There’s also a trip down memory lane with Walter Blessey as he recalls duck hunting and fishing with his late father. The tricky part is that they were able to do both in the same location on the same day.
