Some of Mississippi’s best kept culinary secrets are those little out-of- the-way, kind-of-funky road side joints that often surprise you with what they offer. Henry’s is across the street from a Ford dealership and between an auto parts shop and a boat repair business. Henry’s is not a burger joint, a diner, or a BBQ place, but it’s a combination bakery and Vietnamese restaurant.
I think it makes high marks in this quintessential Southern category.
Henry’s is also one of my top restaurant choices in the state for several good reasons. Vietnamese cuisine is famous around the world for its diversity, deliciousness, and
soul stirring comfort qualities. Henry’s gets it all right. On top of that, it’s a great bakery, putting out world class baguettes, po-boy loafs, croissants, and sweet and savory pastries.
Another big difference is that Henry’s bakes all day long. Most other bakers make their bread early in the morning, and if you stop by that evening, the bread is less than fresh. Walk in Henry’s door in the afternoon and the chances are you will see, and smell, fresh bread just out of the oven.
But let’s get down to brass tacks. What’s the food like? If you are a foodie of any order, you have heard of the Vietnamese national dish, pho.
