   WALTER ANDERSON
    STUDENT ART SHOW
Story and photos by Kelsey Sunderman-Foster
The Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) turned the Ocean Springs Community Center into a burst of youthful imagination during its Winter Student Art Show, held this past December. From kindergartners to high school seniors, students across the Coast were invited to dive into the theme “Walter Anderson Reimagined.” Their mission? To take a beloved Walter Anderson piece and reinvent it through their own creative lens—whether that meant bold new colors, playful twists on familiar motifs, or completely unexpected interpretations. No medium was off-limits, and each student could submit up to two works, resulting in a vibrant, eclectic showcase that
reimagined
felt both deeply personal and wonderfully communal.
The Museum will hold its next student art show in May with the theme “Paradise Found,” wherein students are encouraged to explore their own personal sacred places, such as that of Horn Island for Walter Anderson.
Here are a few standout pieces from “Walter Anderson Reimagined” that caught our eye and captured the adventurous spirit of the exhibition!
