OCEAN SPRINGS
Front Beach is begging for kayak and paddle board launches with more than two miles of sugary sand and a view of the Gulf. Push off from the west end at the Ocean Springs Yacht Club or paddle around the Ocean Springs Harbor on the east end and check out the resident pelicans, seagulls, and amazing shrimp boats. Gulf Islands National Seashore headquarters is about a mile east of the harbor, and don’t forget to check out Shearwater Pottery on the starboard side. You can also explore Biloxi Bay and the Biloxi Bay Bridge or head over to Davis Bayou and Marsh Point. Renting a paddle board or kayak won’t be a problem. There are dozens of rental companies downtown including OS Paddle Board Rentals, Wild Flier, and Bending Pines Watersports.
PASCAGOULA
Rent a kayak at the Pascagoula River Audubon Center or just bring your own and explore part or all of the 10-mile Pascagoula River Blueway. The Pascagoula River is the largest free-flowing waterway in the lower 48 states
and home to nearly two dozen endangered animal species begging to have their photo taken.
MOSS POINT
Toss your own kayak or paddle board in the Escatawpa River Coastal Marsh Preserve and explore several lakes that connect to the Pascagoula River, Round Island, Pascagoula Bay, Pascagoula River Marsh Coastal Preserve, and several Pascagoula River arms.
CAT, SHIP, DEER, HORN, ROUND, AND PETIT BOIS ISLANDS
If you venture out in the Mississippi Sound to any of the six barrier islands, you just might find yourself surrounded by solitude as well as graceful bottlenose dolphins breaking the surface of the water next to your boat. Or you might spot a dignified manatee gently bobbing in the water so close you could almost reach out and touch him. Whatever wildlife you come across on your paddle adventure, it will make for an incredible sight and an even better story to tell your friends and family.
