P. 4
In my final letter as Chair of the Mississippi Gaming and Hospitality Association (MGHA), I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support and dedication throughout 2024. As we reflect on another year of progress, it’s clear that our industry continues to evolve and adapt
to the demands of an ever-changing world. The Mississippi gaming industry is truly unique, not just in its operations, but in the sense of camaraderie and community that exists among all of us. Over the past three decades, we have grown together, learning from one another and navigating challenges side by side.
Looking ahead, my hope is that we continue to embrace the inevitable changes that come our way, fostering a spirit of collaboration and mutual support in our dynamic and constantly evolving sector. We have always shown resilience, and as the industry continues to shift, I believe we will rise to meet new opportunities with the same commitment and unity.
Just a few decades ago, our industry relied on coins in slot machines, and
everything from payments to customer service was handled manually. Today, we are
pioneers in adopting cutting-edge innovations, from artificial intelligence to cashless transactions to drink ordering directly from slot machines. We are on the cusp of a new era, one brimming with limitless potential, and I can only imagine the transformative advancements that await us.
Reflecting on the accomplishments of 2024, I am proud to highlight the tremendous success of our sixth Mississippi Hall of Fame Dinner and Gala, held at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. The event was a resounding triumph, a testament to the strength and unity of our industry. The evening was made even more special by honoring outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to our field: Tim Hinkley, Jon Lucas, William “Bill” Gresham Jr., and Tom Gresham. Their exceptional achievements have left an indelible mark on Mississippi gaming, and we are proud to recognize their legacy.
Additionally, MGHA’s second annual Mississippi Cup Classic Golf Tournament, held at the beautiful Vicksburg Country Club, was a fantastic event that brought us all together. The night before the tournament, we gathered for a reception at Key City Brewery on the rooftop, creating an opportunity to connect and enjoy one another’s company. The team from Silver Slipper Casino Hotel took home this year’s bragging rights, but more importantly, the event served as a reminder of the strong bonds we share. The winning team members were Chuck Barras, David Pisarich, Rich Chase and David Boyd. Congratulations to them on a great score.
One thing that has continually impressed me throughout my time in this industry is the true sense of comradeship and mutual respect that exists within our community. Equally inspiring is the ongoing community involvement demonstrated by the casinos across the state. Mississippi’s gaming industry has consistently led by example, championing impactful charity initiatives that benefit our communities. Our casinos frequently host fundraisers, supporting a wide range of causes and making a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals. This commitment to giving back is a reflection of the core values that define our industry and one of the many reasons I am so proud to be a part of it.
As we continue to build on the foundation we’ve created together, I am confident that the future holds even greater accomplishments for our industry. Thank you once again for your commitment and for being a vital part of this incredible journey.
