P. 4
I write today to applaud Mississippi’s successful embrace of the gaming industry over the past 30 years. Since the first casinos opened in 1992, gaming has become a pillar of our state’s economy, currently supporting 16,326 jobs and generating $298,458,016 million in vital tax revenue annually. Looking ahead, our industry remains deeply committed to promoting ethical, responsible gaming practices. We aim to work with regulators to craft balanced policies that enable continued innovation and prosperity in our industry.
With ongoing cooperation between lawmakers and business leaders, I am confident Mississippi can foster a vibrant, world-class gaming landscape for decades to come. Our industry stands ready to support policies that create jobs, attract tourists, fund crucial public services, and drive financial gains across the Magnolia State.

I also want to highlight the vibrant food and beverage
scene that has emerged at Mississippi’s casinos. Many new and renovated restaurants have recently opened, including Guy Fieri’s Tunica Kitchen + Bar at Horseshoe Tunica, the redesigned buffet at Beau Rivage and the new Sandbar Grill & Cafe at WaterView Casino Hotel.
Our fifth Mississippi Gaming Hall of Fame Dinner and Gala, hosted by Beau Rivage in Biloxi, was another huge success. The 2023 honorees were Chevis Swetman, the Englestad Family Foundation, Rep. Bobby Moak, and Gov. Haley Barbour.
MGHA’s first Mississippi Cup Classic Golf Tournament was held at Tunica National Golf Club, following a reception at the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center and Museum. The team from
Island View Casino Resort took home bragging rights this year, but it was fun and gave us all an opportunity to spend time with one another. One thing that has really impressed me over the years is the comradeship within this industry.
Also impressive is the community involvement by casinos in the state. Mississippi’s gaming industry has been proud to lead impactful charity initiatives. Our casinos regularly host fundraisers and events supporting various causes. It is through our charitable gaming promotions and partnerships that we aim to give back. Our industry’s commitment to community support and philanthropy will continue to grow in the years ahead.
Please count gaming as an ally in advancing Mississippi’s economic success story. It has truly been an honor to serve as the MGHA’s 2023 chair, and I look forward to our continued success.
