Miss Alcorn State University and SGA President 2017 - 2018
The student body at Alcorn State University has chosen two experienced student leaders to be their voice for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Becoming Miss Sophomore during the 2015-2016 academic year gave senior psychology major Kristina Brown insight into what comes with being a part of Alcorn State University’s Stu- dent Government Association. Her stint as Miss Sophomore opened her mind to bigger goals; one of those goals was becom- ing the campus queen.
“After I wrapped up my time as Miss Sophomore, I enjoyed it so much that I had to run for another position,” said Brown, a Jack- son, Mississippi, native. “ at gave me the con dence to run for a bigger position. So it’s safe to say that running for Miss Alcorn is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while.”
Herbert was overcome with emotion when his victory was an- nounced. He re ected on the campaign and all the work it took for him to reach this point in his college experience.
“Hard work really does pay o ,” said Herbert. “Going to class and campaigning had its struggles, but to see that people listened to my views and believed in me was a great feeling.”
Making sure that his peers are well represented is one of Her- bert’s main goals. He looks forward to enforcing positive initia- tives that will bring students together.
“Other than my experience from serving on the SGA committee, I wanted to run for president because I believe that I can bring positive changes to the student body. I want to see us do a bet- ter job at working together to voice the concerns of the student body. Serving them is my main priority.”
Being Miss Alcorn comes with lots of opportunities, and Brown plans to take advantage of her moment. She looks forward to meeting new people and forming relationships that will help make Alcorn an even better.
“My main priority is to bridge the gap between the student body and SGA and become more uni ed. I’m looking forward to net- working and meeting SGA courts from other schools. I’m also excited to get to know other Alcorn alumni.”
