Gulfport chefs compete
GULFPORT — Four chef teams representing The View Casino Resorts competed in November in the 2021 World Food Championships in Dallas, Texas. Representing The View were David Crabtree, executive chef, who placed fourth overall in the seafood category; Jackie Seavey, executive sous chef and former 2018 World Food Champion, who placed in the top 10 in the dessert category; Calvin Lipe, room chef, Dockside Deli, who competed in the soup category; and Deborah Thomas, room chef, The Diner, who competed in the bacon category.
Crabtree, assisted for the first time in his WFC competitions by his wife, Mary, won fourth overall out of 36 teams competing in the Seafood category. Finishing fourth gave Crabtree automatic entry into the 2022 World Championships.
Seavey placed in the top 10 competing for the first time in the Dessert Category with her team consisting of Mary Grace Moss, room chef, Prime Cut, and Seavey’s daughter, Sydney Adams.
Chefs Lipe and Thomas both just missed placing in the top 10 in their categories. Lipe teamed up with his wife, Angel, and competed in the Soup Category, just missing the top 10 by two places. Thomas, former sous chef to Jackie Seavey in the World Food Championships in 2018, competed in the Bacon Category.
