Firmly positioned within the post-grunge and alternative rock scenes, Hinder drew comparisons to bands like Nickelback and Buckcherry for their radio-friendly sound and wild, rock-star personas. Their follow-up albums, including Take It to the Limit (2008), featuring the hit single “Use Me,” continued to highlight their versatility and appeal.
Tonic, a Los Angeles-based alternative rock band, was formed in 1993 by singer-songwriter Emerson Hart and Fuel guitarist Jeff Russo. Joined by bassist Dan Lavery and drummer Kevin Shepard, the band crafted a sound with

Fuel, an American rock band, ignited its journey in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1989. Founded by guitarist Carl Bell and bassist Jeff Abercrombie, the group initially played small venues before breaking into the mainstream with their post-grunge sound. Fuel carved a niche in the late 1990s and early 2000s, a pivotal era for alternative rock.
The band’s debut album, Sunburn (1998), catapulted them to fame, fueled by the smash hit “Shimmer.” Known for its melodic intensity and emotional depth, the song became a rock radio staple. Fuel continued their ascent with their sophomore effort, Something Like Human (2000), which went multi-platinum. This album featured chart-toppers like “Hemorrhage (In My Hands),” a No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks, solidifying their status as alt-rock heavyweights.
Fuel’s ability to blend powerful guitar riffs with introspective lyrics earned them a loyal fan base. Their music often explores themes of love, loss, and resilience, resonating with audiences worldwide. The band’s live performances are renowned for their raw energy and connection with fans.
Hinder, a hard rock band hailing from Oklahoma City, formed in 2001. Founding members Austin Winkler (vocals), Joe “Blower” Garvey (guitar), and Cody Hanson (drums) aimed to blend gritty rock anthems with emotionally charged ballads. Rounded out by bassist Mike Rodden and guitarist Mark King, the band quickly gained traction.
Hinder broke into the mainstream with their debut album, Extreme Behavior (2005), a triple-platinum success anchored by the smash hit “Lips of an Angel.” The power ballad topped charts worldwide, resonating with its heartfelt lyrics and Winkler’s distinctive raspy vocals. Other hits like “Get
heartfelt lyrics, soaring melodies and raw instrumentation. Tonic made an indelible mark on the music scene with their debut album, Lemon Parade (1996). The album’s breakout single, “If You Could Only See,” became a defining anthem of the 1990s, reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Its emotionally charged lyrics and memorable hooks solidified Tonic as a standout act in the post-grunge
and modern rock movements.
The band’s follow-up albums, Sugar (1999) and Head
on Straight (2002), further showcased their ability to blend introspection with rock sensibilities. Head on Straight earned two Grammy nominations, a testament to their songwriting prowess and dynamic sound. Tracks like “You Wanted More” and “Open Up Your Eyes” remained fan favorites, keeping their music in steady rotation on rock radio.
