Stars to perform at Tunica casinos
TUNICA — Casinos in Tunica continue to add headline enter- tainment, including Little Feat, Vicki Lawrence and an Elvis tribute show. Jackpot! takes a look at performers now scheduled to appear.
• Horseshoe Tunica welcomes Skid Row with Autograph, Friday, Sept. 9, and Little Feat in the Waiting For Columbus Tour, Friday, Dec. 2. For Skid Row, the first rebellion started in 1986 when New Jersey kids with a punk and metal attitude set out to conquer the world. Dave “Snake” Sabo, Scotti Hill and Rachel Bolan vowed that Skid Row wouldn’t fade into rock and roll obscurity. Their re- bellion continues. After the Burnett Show, Vicki went on to star in “Mama’s Family,” which consistently topped the ratings for its entire six-year run of original shows. “Mama” has attained almost a cult status among her legions of loyal television viewers.
Following the ratings for the “Carol Burnett Showstopper Spe- cial” in 2001 (more than 50 million viewers), Lawrence decided that the time is right to take Mama out of the closet, dust off her sensible shoes and hit the road with her new touring production, Vicki Law- rence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show.
• At Gold Strike Casino Resort, see country music star Jim- mie Allen. Allen performs at Gold Strike on Friday, July 8. Allen’s first official single, “Best Shot,” released in early 2018, was the second most-added song to country music radio playlists. It hit the Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay, and Billboard Hot 100 charts and was made into a music video. His debut album, Mercury Lane, was issued in October. 2018. “Best Shot” was a No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in No- vember 2018, making him the first black artist to send his debut single to the top of that chart. The album’s second single, “Make Me Want To,” released to country radio in early 2019, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Air- play chart. In 2020, Allen released “This Is Us,” a duet with Noah Cyrus. A second single was “Freedom Was a Highway,” a duet with Brad Paisley, which was released on Feb. 1, 2021. It became Allen’s third No. 1 hit and Paisley’s 20th. Allen became the first black solo performer to win New Male Artist of the Year at the 2021 ACM Awards, where he also performed a memorable duet with fellow
country artist Brad Paisley.
