Sawyer Brown comes to Mississippi
Country music band to perform at Pearl River Resort and Fitz Casino
MISSISSIPPI — Sawyer Brown will perform live on stage in Mississippi at two casinos, Pearl River Resort and Fitz Casino Hotel. The band plays at Pearl River Resort’s Silver Star Convention Center on Saturday, May 27. Sawyer Brown comes to Tunica on
Saturday, June 3, to perform at Fitz Casino Hotel.
Sawyer Brown is an American country music band that was
formed in 1981 in Apopka, Florida. The band’s name is derived from the name of the street that the band’s lead singer, Mark Miller, lived on during his childhood. Sawyer Brown began performing at small clubs and bars in the Florida area before relocating to Nashville, Tennessee in 1984.
The band’s early years were spent touring and building a following, but their big break came in 1985 with the release of their self-titled debut album, which included the hit single “Step That Step.”
Sawyer Brown’s energetic live performances and catchy songs quickly made them one of country music’s most popular acts, and they went on to have a string of hit singles throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including “Some Girls Do,” “The Dirt Road,” and “Thank God for You.”
The current members of Sawyer Brown are Mark Miller (lead vocals), Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard (keyboards), Jim Scholten (bass guitar), Joe “Curly” Smyth (drums), and Shayne Hill (lead guitar). The band has undergone a few lineup changes over the years, with Miller being the only constant member.
In addition to their success on the country music charts, Sawyer Brown has also won several awards, including the Academy of Country Music’s Vocal Group of the Year award in 1997. They continue to tour and record new music to this day, and their high-

John Anderson to perform at Gold Strike
Classic country powerhouse hits the stage on Wednesday, July 26
TUNICA – Classic country powerhouse John Anderson is taking his decades of hits and hitting the road with a special acoustic performance at the Gold Strike Theatre inside Gold Strike Casino Resort on Wednesday, July 26, at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $39.50 and are on sale now.
John Anderson grew up in Apopka, Florida, and remembers humming along to the tone of his father’s boat motor. He started his music career performing solo around the state while working construction before moving to
work on the roofing crew for the new Grand Ole Opry House. That’s where he landed a recording contract.
After charting modestly in the late ‘70s, Anderson scored No. 1 hits in the ‘80s with “Wild and Blue,” “Swingin’” and “Black Sheep.” After a brief career lull, he staged a major comeback in 1992 as “Starlight Tequila Night” became his first No. 1 single in nine years. That momentum carried him into the 2000s, giving him 60 charting country singles in four consecutive decades.
